IngredientsMakes: 750 ml almond milk
- 150g almonds
- 1.25L water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, cardamom and cloves
MethodPrep:15min ›Extra time:8hr soaking › Ready in:8hr15min
- Soak the almonds in 500ml of water overnight. Drain and peel the almonds.
- Add the peeled almonds plus 750ml of water to a blender and blitz.
- Pour the blended mix through a sieve to collect the pulp.
- Add the spices and place in a pan, heat gently and enjoy!

How to make Meghan Markle's favorite almond spiced holiday cocktail at home
The Duchess of Sussex is all about getting into the holiday spirit — and she once shared her tips on hosting the perfect Christmas.
Speaking to Grazia in 2015, Meghan Markle shared her go-to decorations, which included garlands placed around mirrors and all-white flowers in low vases. She also shared her favorite side dishes — including a recipe for maple glazed potato wedges — for Christmas dinner with friends.
But most importantly, she shared the recipe for the almond spiced cocktail that she serves to guests during the holidays.
- 4 cups unsweetened almond milk (you can make your own by blending raw almonds with milk and straining it)
- 1 tsp of cinnamon
- tsp cardamom
- 1tsp of powdered ginger
- 1/2 tsp of clove
- 6-8 dried dates soaked in water
- your favorite bourbon
- cinnamon sticks for garnish.
1. Blend all ingredients (except the alcohol) in a powerful blender and then move to a small saucepan.
2. Heat at a low temperature until heated and then add 4-6 ounces into the pot depending on your friends' palates.
3. Pour each drink and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
4. If you prefer this drink cold, then omit the heating and shake it hard in a cocktail shaker and serve in champagne glasses with a cinnamon/sugar rim on the glass. Super pretty and equally delicious!

Spiced almond and fig cake - The Caker
To Celebrate a little something we have planned for this weekend here is a gorgeous wintery spiced cake from "The Caker" to get you through the rest of the week.
- 150g butter, softened
- 150g light muscovado sugar or soft brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 eggs
- 100g spelt flour
- 100g ground almonds
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp mixed spice
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 8 soft dried figs, cut into quarters
- ½ cup milk of your choice
- 150g butter, softened
- 2 cups icing sugar
- 100g cream cheese
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
store-bought caramel sauce and or freeze dried fig halves
Preheat the oven to 180°C fan bake. Line a 22cm tin with baking paper.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar until pale, light and fluffy.
Add the vanilla and then the eggs, one at a time.
In two parts, add in the flour, ground almonds and spices, along with the milk. Stop your electric mixer once all the ingredients are combined – do not over-mix.
Spoon the batter into the tin and spread out evenly. Dot in the dried fig quarters and press down with the back of a spoon.
Bake for approximately 30-40 minutes or until golden in colour, springy to the touch and a skewer inserted in the centre comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes before turning out onto a cooling rack.
Meanwhile, make the icing: in the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter until smooth, then add the icing sugar, vanilla and cinnamon and continue to beat until light and fluffy. Add the cream cheese in small amounts and continue to beat until completely smooth and pale.
Once the cake is completely cool, spread on a layer of icing. Decorate as desired.

Healing Milks: Turmeric Golden Milk + Spiced Almond Milk
Your family and friends gathered around the table, everything was well-prepared and everybody had so much fun! What comes the next day? Feeling exhausted from all that work. You pay for making everything perfect with energy and nutrient loss. As soon as you have a moment for yourself, try to make one of these healing milks to put you back on track.
Healing milks are my go-to drinks for regaining my focus, mindfulness and energy. Loaded with spices, protein and healthy fats, they make a perfect elixir for calming my mind, nourishing my cells and rooting my spirit.
Turmeric, nutmeg and cinnamon are ancient healing spices, with a strong antioxidant and soothing effect, making them the best choice for adding to these milks. Coconut oil is never missing from the picture, because it stimulates cells regeneration and balanced hormone production (responsible for your good mood). Plant-based milks contain concentrations of the protein your body needs for restoring damaged cells and for activating the enzymes responsible for natural detoxification processes.
Chai Spiced Almond Milk
I started making my own almond milk about a year ago and every time I have fresh milk at home, I am reminded how easy it is! As long as you remember to soak the almonds overnight, it literally comes together in a matter of minutes in a Vitamix… and you don’t have to search far and wide for a version without carrageenan – arg. While fresh almond milk is a treat, this a whole different ball game. I mean seriously, move over egg nog, this is the perfect dairy free beverage for the holiday season!
This recipe came about because one day I was drinking rooibos tea and wanted a splash of milk in it – I am pretty sensitive to caffeine so this is a common go-to of mine. As I poured the almond milk into my spicy cup of tea on that Fall day, I thought to myself: “What if I could make the almond milk spiced? That would be so holiday appropriate…” I mean, isn’t that what December is ALL about.
I originally was going to use the rooibos tea but soon realized I had a few chai tea bags in my stash and the flavors of chai are a bit bolder. So I got right to work! I soaked the almonds overnight and instead of just adding the water they were soaked in, I drained them and brewed up some chai tea. I also went a bit heavier on the spices to really give it a nice flavor.
If you don’t own a cheese cloth or a nut milk bag (go ahead, giggle a little bit, I do too every time I say it) you can just use a fine mesh strainer, it takes a little longer but that’s the way I have been making it for over a year.
And this glorious concoction was the result. This milk is spicy and sweet, comforting and cozy, and while it is a perfect addition to beverages such as tea and coffee and a great complement to all those holiday cookies, it’s also great on it’s own. I found myself having a glass at night if I wasn’t quite satisfied from dinner. Throw a little whisky in there and you’ve really got yourself the ultimate nightcap!

Anti-Inflammatory Golden Milk
Let&rsquos talk about the turmeric benefits. Turmeric grows wild in the forests of South Asia and Southeast Asia. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. In curry, turmeric gives the dish its yellow color. Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and a acts as a strong antioxidant. It helps repair damage in our body as well as protecting against cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer&rsquos, treating arthritis. It also gives clearer skin and helps delay the onset of Type 2 Diabetes (in 2012 study). That&rsquos quite a list, isn&rsquot it?
To boost turmeric blood levels in our body (and hence increase our cumin's bioavailability by 2000%), I added some peppercorn. This helps to absorb turmeric and increases turmeric's health benefits. I added a small amount of coconut oil, which has those good fats that our body actually needs. Don't worry, the turmeric milk will stay clear and not oily. You may not even notice these two ingredients in your milk. I use cinnamon to boost the flavor and make it sweeter. The cinnamon has its own health benefits such as regulating our blood sugar.
My husband said this drink tastes similar to Chai tea but has some other flavors in there that make it even better. I thought that was an interesting comparison, and am happy for him to drink this much more often than Chai tea, as a large cup of that could have more sugar than a candy bar. My husband definitely has a sweet tooth and craves sweets about three times a day(after lunch, after work, and after dinner). I think this recipe is a great example of using ingredients like cinnamon to satisfy those cravings. Combined with the peppercorn, turmeric and even the almond milk (which is unsweetened) it brings a unique and tasty flavor that he&rsquoll happily reach for, and steer clear of an extra dessert for the day.
*Just a quick tip: As turmeric is also used as a coloring agent, be sure to keep your favorite clothes away from any turmeric residue. Hope you'll enjoy this Golden Milk recipe with Turmeric and Almond milk.

Before Meghan Markle enjoyed boozy Christmas pudding with the queen, she was making her own cocktails at home during the holiday season. In a past interview with Grazia (pre her incredible love story with Prince Harry), Markle revealed her go-to festive drink &mdash and it’s just as amazing as we would expect. Listen, around here we love a good celeb recommendation, and if a delicious new recipe comes straight from royalty &mdash well, it’s pretty much a done deal. Markle’s holiday beverage sounds incredible and it’s basically our new favorite vegan-friendly cocktail.
Markle’s Almond Milk Spiced Holiday Cocktail is made with four cups of unsweetened almond milk, though (in case you’re feeling up to the challenge) she notes that you can make your own alt milk by blending raw almonds with milk and straining it. Additionally, the recipe will require cinnamon, cardamom, dates, and powdered ginger &mdash just to name a few of the ingredients. Of course, the stars of this holiday drink is the bourbon and cinnamon sticks.
After you gather all of your ingredients you’ll want to blend them (sans alcohol) in your blender before you move them to a small saucepan. Remember, the key to successfully tackling any new recipe is using the proper utensils. Don’t have a saucepan? We love this Ina Garten-approved All-Clad sauce pan.
Then you’ll heat your mixture at a low temperature and mix in the boozy delight of your favorite bourbon. Sadly, the Duchess of Sussex did not reveal what the alcohol of her choosing is. Each drink will be decorated with the garnish of your cinnamon sticks. In the case that you’re more of a cold drink fan, Markle wrote that you can skip the saucepan and shake it around in a cocktail shaker. BRB, we’re about to make a big batch for ourselves.
